Getting decent photographs of a sandwich is hard. I'm not working with a great camera. If it's not sunny out, the pictures won't be worthwhile. If the summer sun is too high in the sky, the table is cast in shadow. Some sandwiches just aren't that nice looking to begin with.
To be honest though, I find it really liberating, setting out to make a damn fine sandwich, without the pressure of having to construct and photograph it to par. And I even get to sit with my friends and eat them while they're still hot! (the sandwiches, not the friends)
This is one I made for my roommate Tim. It was really fucking delicious, but I think you'll all see what I mean about the photo quality. Which is why I'll probably on a little more of a sandwich blogging hiatus for now. Enjoy.
toasted onion bun
bacon fried in maple syrup
garlic boursin
Swiss
royal gala apple
red onion*
garlic*
rosemary*
*fried in butter
Ontario wildflower creamed honey and grainy Dijon
served with potato salad
boiled red skinned new potatoes
dill and chives from my garden
tiny hint of mayonnaise

It's hard to take fancy food pictures if you don't have a good camera. I have the same problem, but no worries, I like your pictures!
ReplyDeleteThat sandwich looks delish! Bacon bacon: woop woop!
Have you ever thought about writing a book? Your sandwiches are inspirational. I think your photographs are stunning too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tine, and Maggie, I have thought about writing a book, but I'm going to wait until I get a really good camera, and a great setting to shoot constantly (and more money to finance some slightly pricier fixings). Probably in a couple of years I will be satisfied with the work I could put out. Thank you for the encouragement though. I read your blog all the time, and am so honoured to notice you link to mine. I'm in the process of checking out every single other one of your recommended sites!
